As I posted last time I am clearing an area to plant fruit trees. I have wild grape vines everywhere they criss-cross the ground and are great at catching my toe and tripping me, I haven’t fallen yet but I am positive it is just a matter of time.
I was reading an article about wild grapes and realized these are most likely the same wild grapes we found on my grand parents farm and occasionally we would find clusters of grapes hanging on a fence row. You couldn’t eat the skin it was too tough but they were pretty sweet on the inside. Grandpa called them mustang grapes, now I believe that was Texan for Muscadines.
So I have decided to see if I can tame my mustang grapes and make some wild grape jam. I bought a Muscadine grape vine and I have located two wild grape vines that are fairly thick and I am preparing an arbor for them to grow on and am hopeful that the wild grapes will pollinate the purchased vine. The description of the purchased vine indicated this was possible.
