Meemaw Duty

So looks like I am on full time Meemaw Duty this week, LD’s babysitter is ill and I am always on call. I love keeping T he’s such a busy little man. And I may be a little prejudiced but he’s very bright and keeps me hopping. Today we watched Disney music videos on YouTube. He loved them, we also went outside and he ran around in the leaves and climbed in the trailer. He found 2 sticks on the ground and I think one was a flashlight and the other come kind on laser gun. By the time he went down for a nap I was exhausted and needed a nap too.

I had planned to work on my orchard today, it will be raining tomorrow, but an almost 3 year old would be too much to keep up with in the wide open spaces, and I don’t move as fast as he does.

Two years ago I bought some peaches at a farmers market, they weren’t real big but the colors were really pretty. They were delicious, everything a peach should be sweet and firm to the bite and the aroma….. So I saved the pits and planted them in the fall in some planters that normally contain tomatoes in the summer. In the spring I had 6 little peach tree sprouts. I transferred them to bigger pots to allow them to grow get bigger. This year they are all about 2 feet tall and I am planning to transplant them to an area I have been clearing of wild grape, hickory saplings and other unidentified small trees. It is really hard work, lots of bending over and raking. I also have purchased 2 Damson plum trees, 2 apple trees and was given a nectarine tree and a pear tree as a birthday gift. I have been reading about permaculture and companion plantings, this is my goal for all my fruit trees. I also plan to put in a flower bed for attracting pollinators.

I can’t figure out why some folks I talk to about retirement ask me if I am bored yet, I am trying to figure out why I didn’t retire sooner, I have such a long list of projects I haven’t even begun.
